Homeschool preschool catechism course introduces the doctrine of God, teaching toddlers about His majesty, power, and love through a simple question-and-answer format, enhanced with songs, stories, and scripture to aid in memorization. We hope this will instill a foundational love for the Lord in your child.

The Catechism found here is based on four historic Protestant catechisms, and material is pulled from each to create a unified whole. Those are:

  • Westminster Catechism – traditional for Congregationalists, Presbyterians, and similar.
  • Luther’s Catechism – traditional for Lutherans.
  • Heidelberg Catechism – traditional for Dutch Reformed, Mennonites, and Reformed Anglicans.
  • 1689 Baptist Catechism – traditional for Reformed Baptists.

Special Note: These catechisms do not teach newer theological innovations, such as Dispensationalism and Pentecostalism, which were not popularized until the 20th century and are not part of traditional Reformed theology. These Catechisms teach Covenant Theology and Cessationism, which are the traditional views of the Reformation, the reformers, and the confessions that followed them.

While the church you attend may adhere to a dispensational system or some variation of Pentecostalism, these Catechisms will not, and we recommend that you speak to your church elders about the differences. Many churches that are Reformed differ in these areas, and we would invite you to inquire with your church leadership. We do NOT feel that these differences need to be a point of division of fellowship among believers, but it is a distinction worth noting in this context, since you, as a parent, deserve full awareness of what this curriculum will be teaching to your children theologically.

At this age, we are focused on the “shorter” catechisms (where applicable) as this is appropriate for this age group up through fourth grade. In the Logic phase of our curriculum, we will be looking at the “longer” catechisms that go into more theological detail and are appropriate for grades 5-8.
