Crafting Minds with Classical Precision

Explore Our Homeschool Curriculum

Discover a meticulously designed curriculum that nurtures critical thinking and lifelong learning through the classical Trivium model.

Understanding the Trivium Model

The Trivium model is the cornerstone of classical education, emphasizing a three-stage approach to learning: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. At Reformed Classic Academy, we integrate this model to foster a deep understanding and mastery of subjects. The Grammar stage focuses on foundational knowledge, the Logic stage develops analytical skills, and the Rhetoric stage enhances expressive capabilities. This structured approach cultivates intellectual growth and prepares students for a lifetime of learning and inquiry.

Curriculum Subjects

Our homeschool curriculum is thoughtfully organized to align with the Trivium model, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience. In the Grammar stage (1st – 4th grades), students engage with subjects such as fundamental mathematics, science facts, and basic English skills, building a solid base of essential knowledge. The Logic stage (5th-8th grades) introduces subjects like Logic, Theology, Philosophy, science experimentation, and higher mathematics that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Finally, the Rhetoric stage (9th – 12th grades) focuses on subjects such as Humanities (an integrated course), High School level sciences, Algebra & Geometry, along with rhetorical skills such as debate and public speaking. This allows students to articulate ideas effectively and persuasively. Each subject is supported by curated materials based on public domain textbooks (McGuffey’s Readers for example) that once were common to American education in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and are tailored to meet the educational goals of each stage of the Trivium.

Educational Goals

Grammar Stage

In the Grammar Stage, the focus is on building a strong foundation of knowledge through memorization and learning the basics of various subjects. Students engage with English skills, Mathematics, and scientific and historical facts at an age when children have a natural curiosity and love of learning.

Logic Stage

The Logic Stage emphasizes critical thinking (logic) and analytical skills. This is the time when students ask “why”. Students learn to reason and understand the relationships between different pieces of information, preparing them for more complex studies in subjects like science and philosophy.

Rhetoric Stage

During the Rhetoric Stage, students refine their communication skills, learning to express their ideas persuasively and effectively. This stage focuses on advanced studies and the application of knowledge through debate and writing.

Pre-Trivium

This is a great place to start your child’s pre-education (preschool – Kindergarten). This gives children time to acclimate to our program and time for parents to see if our curriculum is right for their children. All families can try one of our pre-trivium courses for free.

Who We Are

Lorin Partain

Lorin Partain is the founder and curriculum writer for Reformed Classic Academy. Lorin has a B.A. from Biola University in Bible, Theology, and Apologetics. He was directly involved in homeschooling both of his children until they reached high school, when they entered Logos Online, a classical Christian online school based in Moscow, Idaho. Lorin is passionate about Christian education done right, that is, from a trivium model and using classic (19th-century and older) curriculum. Our modern education state system has largely abandoned this model, and Lorin wants to see it brought back, from a Reformed Christian perspective, for the benefit of as many children as possible.
